The committee of- tho Marlborough branch of the Post and Telegraph Association . passe-1 the, following -resolution :-'This branch emphatically protests agmnst any evasion on tho part of the Government in regard to the. pledge given by the Into Finance Minister in resi>eet to the war bonus in view of tho fact that the officers accepted tho assurance in good faith, and also the necessity that then existed, and which' whs further accentuated; by ..the 'increase in tho cost of living without a corresponding relief in the scale of salariee. THE AVAIKATO BRANCH. • Hamilton, November 22. At. a largely-attended meeting of tho Waikato and King Country section of the New Zealand Post and ' Telegraph Officers' Association several members commented on tho conditions that existed as a result of tho high cost of living, and showed it was impossible- to maintain a decent, standard of living for themselves and their dependants on their present salaries. Tho. following' resolution wns. earned:—"This association seriously'requests the Government to honour,the promises respecting iho war bonu's, hia'do by. Sir Joseph Ward, believing as they did that, in agreoing to. the roclassifieation pf tho salary schedule Iho bonus would still 1)6 paid. ; A WANGANUI OPINION.'.. " By Tolejraph-Press Aewciation. Watiganui, November 21. The following resolution was passed unanimously at n special general meetiiie of the local branch of the. P. aud'T. Officers' Association to-night :—"This meethitt is of opinion that the action of Ihti Government in refusing to , honour the nromisM made by Sir Joseph Ward in his official capacity as Postiiiaster-Genc-ml in the Coalition Ministry in connection with the. war bonus, is contrary to the oft-expressed promises of the present Government to give.'to all and sun-drv-a saiiare deal, and is also conducive to .weakening public servants' faith in Ministerial ■ Broiliises." ■; ■ A GISBOKXE RESOLUTION. Gisborne, November 21. The followiii'f; resolution; was passed at a largely attended meeting of tho P. and 'J-'. Officeis' Association;—" That, tho branch deplores the fact tlhat Uie Government, has nut seen fit to pay, the outstanding portion of the war bouus. especially in view of Wie fact that when tho Service was reclassificd. the ■ basis taken was a. 27 per , cent; increase in .the cost of living. To-day, .this Ui-as rispii to -17 per cent., anil the branch calls upon Cabinet immediately to reconsiderMte decision aud thus place, the employees..in the position equal to the ■ pre-war, standard. Furthermore, that Mie meeting considers that, as Public servants, they are of oiiiniou they have been disloyally treated and the faith ~'in .the country's administration been eoverely shaken, that the branch further, urges the.,Governmerit'to'immediately make an announcement regarding the payment of a bonus for tho year March • 31, 1020, owing to an addition' of 20 per cent, increase in Ohe cost of living- sinco tho Service was regraded in March of this year, as shown by the Govermusiit Statistician's figures."
