Dr. Klliott proposed an amendment thanking Urn coniihittee for its services, and discontinuing its efforts. The debate -was adiournedtill the evening. In the evening the Assembly discussed Church union, and finally carried bv 155 to lit a motion by Dr. Gihb expressing thankfulness for the remarkable growth of [filing and conviction favourable to union between this Church and , the Methodist and Congregational Churches, as indicated by I the returns from .I'res-bylerie-s, sessions, and congregations, confidence that the desire ; for union grow so that , before many years pass the three Churches would be able to' form one great united. Church of New Zealand, but it is clear 'to the Assembly that the feeling for union in this Church is not yet sufficiently widespread to justify a'll immediate effort to open up negotiations with the other two Churches, and the Assembly resolves 10 postpone' decision on the point, meanwhile reappointing the Church Union Committee with instructions to -watch and report on all relevant developments to the Assembly, and to take slops to promote co-operation-- with the two Churches. Further, in the event of the Congregational Union offering any new proposals, to consider lliem, ami in due course lo submit them to the General Assembly."
