4 LEARNING TO SHOOT BIG SERIES OF COMPETITIONS Tho thoroughness and practical nature of tho oourso of training undergone by Territorials and Senior Cadets in tho Wellington district is reflected in tho extensive series oE competitions lately arranged. This year the Senior Cadets havo been making a special feature of musketry instruction and riflo practice generally. Tlio last group meeting iu March of this year was the biggest ever held in tho Dominion, and tho group officers are aiming at an even greater success for ths next meeting. With that object in view the training of Wellington's embryo soldiers in the past few months has been very thorough and systematic. Tho musketry course is well advanced and the authorities havo in view a group rifle meeting which is to bo held at Trentham oil January 31 and February 7, " Arrangcmonts for this aro well in hand, and in addition to the Sonior Cadets', Territorials', and rifle clubs' matches there will be special matches for returned soldiers,_ for which good prizes aro being offered; and for old Volunteers, Legion of Frontiersmen, and National Reservists. These special matches embody a new feature, and tho group officere hope that they rill be well patronised. At present a number of Senior Cadet companies in tlio Wellington group aro firing inter-company matches, for which I prizes and trophies have been donated uv local people. The "Weekly Press" Challenge Shield competition, which is to bo fired before December 31, and for which a large number of entries have been received, is also attracting considerable attention among the local cadets. Tho lads are also interested iu tho Imperial Challenge Shield and tho Islington Cup, firing for which has to'be completed before Juno 30 next. No. 107 Post and Telegraph Cadets aro practising hard for the Western Electric Shield ■competition, which lias to bo fired be. tween February 1 and the end of March. In counootion with the Wellington Riflo Association meeting, which is to bo held on January 1 and 2 at Trentham, special prizes are being put on by tho executivo for Senior Cadets, The Wellington district rifle meeting for rifle clubs, Territorials, and Senior Cadets in tho whole of tho Wellington military district will bo held during the last week in February at Trentham, ' The most interesting fixture of all, the Dominion Riflo Association's meeting, is to take placo at Trentham early in March.
