A copy of the circular issued by the Wanguuui Borough Council protesting against tho reinstatement of Professor von Zedlitz in his former position at tlio Victoria College University, which has been going the rounds of numerous local bodies, was considered at yesterday's meeting of the Wellington Education Board. At the outset, Mr. J. P. Shard moved that the letter Iw received. This led to a short discussion, in the cnjirso of which ij'l-r. T. Moss moved an amendment to the effect -that the board did not approve of the appointment, of a man of alien nationality to the portion. The amendment, which was seconded by Mr. C. J. Ji'arknesa, was also supported by Mr; 1?. A; Wright', M.P., who remarked that there was no question that, the reinstatement of Professor von Zedlitz ■would l» most objectionable to the majority of the people of New Zea'and. Personally, he was against; it, and one of his- reasons was that when the war first broke out the professor made a statement, which was on word, that he thought it was his duty to return to G fiinany. Mr. Hhand explained that the ve.nsoh for his moving the motion was that he eorsidered the onus was 011 the Victoria College f'ouiK-il to ar-l in the matter, and he thought that body should have sufficient backbone to make a '.Mnrntjon on the matter. 71> dwirccatwl the action of th« council in "n'ttin? on n mil yaitln? for a lead from outs'de bodies."
The motion was rejected in favour of tl\c amendment, which was carried after n division.
