The collier Karori, while entering the harbour to-day from Newcastle, touched a sandbank. She is berthed, and is reported to be making water fast. It 13 reported Inat while the Karori was navigating between ijuuranlinc and Goat Islands, with a strong iiood title, the vessel sheered towarde die Quarantine Island, touching bottom. After the vessel berthed, it wae discovered that she was making water fast in Ho. 2 tank amidships, the engine-room, and the stokehold, putting out the fires. The tug Plucky brought a- hull; alongeido the Karori at 5 p.m, and the work of installing pumping apparatus is now in progress and is expected to be in operation at 6 a.m. to-morrow. The ship's hull is now resting On the bottom of the harbour. Until sufficient water has been pumped out, to enable the vessel to float the extent of the damage cannot be ascertained. THE AItAWA. Reporting at the last meeting of the Greymouth Harbour Board, the harbourmaster stated that 29 vessels, of 13,919 tons gross, entered the port, and 31 \eß3cls, of 15,259 tons gross, cleared from the part during the month of October. The mean average depth on the bar for the month was 22ft. 2in., and tin: river 23ft. Tho bar had been anything but good at times during the month, but it vas ox.pcotcil that the recent fresh would scour the bar to a good depth. The chairman eaid that he did not wish to. be pessimictic, but it seemed that the services of the dredge would be necessary in the near future. After all freshes in the river tilting took place •where vessels were moored. Captain Cox had mentioned that ■when the barque Kothesay Bay wan first moored there was a depth of 20ft., whereas now the silting had reduced it to lift.
