At a meeting of supjwrters to nieht Mr. Downie Stewart announced his intention to contest tho Dunedin West scat as an Independent, in order to help bring about a proper realignment ot parties, 'iho present fight between tho Liberals and Reformers was rioicnlous. The, evils arising from the party system at tho present juncture were too obvious lo need comment. He hoped the ]ndeuendents would bo in a position to bring about a strong, progressive Administration, embodying the best elements of the Rp.form and Liberal parties, and «i stron? section of moderate. At tho request of a large, representative deputation, Mr. Percy It Watts, Mayor of Hamilton, has consented to stand for (he Wnikato seat as an Indeoendent Liberal. Pirani, tho Progressiva Liberal candidate for Wellington Central, will take for tho main part of his openin" address to the electors at St. Peter's Hall, Ghuznoo Street, to-night at 8 o'clock. To-night' Mr. W. It Field, Reform, will address tho electors of tho Otakl electorate in tho Reikorangi Sohool. Mr. R. A. Wright will address tho electors at Ngaio to-morrow.evening. Mr. Dunbar Sloane will speak at Ohariu to-night and at Kaiwarra on Thursday, Mr. A. W. Croskery will address the elector* in the' Methodist Schoolroom, Karori, to-night. ' To-morrow ■Mγ. J. P. Guthrio, tho Reform candidate for the Oroua seat, will give addresses nt Mangaweka on Monday, at Ohinguiti on Tuesday, at JJ.unterviJlo on November 2G, and at Rata on tho day Mr. H.
