BOARD OF STUDIES
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Board of Studies of tho University of Now Zealand was lield at Victoria College yesteiiday. Professor H. \V. &gar, of Auckland, presided * A resolution was passed deploring tho loss suffered "by tho University through Hie death of Mr. .1. W. Joynt, M.A., ftrmer Begistrar of the University. Professor Rankine Brown moved that the Senate lie asked to rewind its resolution to allow a candidate to present an advanced subject before lie has passed at least three subjects at the pass grade. The motion was lost by 15 votes to i. On the motioh of Professor Ingrlie, it li'.i's resolved that a provision similar to that of the B.A. degree should bo applied to the B.Sc. decree, and it was decided to ur<te that the amended propnw.l should hike effect this year. The board considered a notice of motion thnt a crmdidnfo for the B.A. degree should be allowed to tfllce (a) jurisprudence and constitutional history, and (b) history. On the motion of Professor Right it was resolved that tho board recommend th(j Senate to remove the subject of jurisprudence and constitutional history from tho Arts course. Tho Uledical Board recommended that the diplomas of medical graduates should hear photographs and signatures of the recipients. Professor Gilni.v moved that the proptsal be agreed to. Professor Kirk proposed an amendment that consideration of the matter bo deferrbd until a reply was received from the General Medical Council. Both the amendment and the motion were defeated. The board approved a number of eugpiytions from the medical and denial faculties relating to the medical curriculum. On the motion of Prcfe«or GnV.ntt. (ho Ward resolved to support pertain modifications in the «n?ineerinjj rourse, -whereby a student is Riven credit in all cases where two or more subjects are jinked at mi examination. The following two recommendations of the law teachers were approved.:—(l) (i) constituiional history and (ji) jurisprudence, (iii) international law, (iv) conflict of laws be _eepiiriile subjects, and that it be no longer neepssary (lint constitutional lrsiory ami jurisDvudencn or iutuniiitional law and conflict of knvs be p.wed at the same examinations. (2) Thnt in the event of constiUiliomil history and jurisprudence censing to be subject* for the- 8.A., constitutional history should no longer be a subject for the 1.L.8. and iuWsprndence should be made a full subject. The board adjourned until to-day.
