Ho was accorded a unanimous-voto of confidence. MR. M'COMJJS AT LYTTELTON. Christohurch, November 17 Mr. J. M'C'ombs, Labour candidate for Lyltellon, nho opened his campaign tonight, claimed that party government under existing conditions was a necessity. The political Labour Party was Kpckini; by constitutional means to bring about a better stale of society. The Liboral Party occupied a position midway between conservatism and progress, lie claimed that Labour was the only party definitely challenging the old order with ils corruptions, inequalities, injustice, commercial immorality, and profiteering. Tie advocated frco education from the kindergarten to the university, more liberal pensions for widows, and the acquisition by tlio State of the Hour mills minos, and ferry service. Ho condemned Sir Joseph Ward's financial proposals, and said' he tfas convinced that; the repatriation policy would have to bo reviewed. A unanimous vole of thanks and confidence was accorded the candidate.
