STATEMENT. BY HON. A. It MYERS. By Telo»r»Dh.~Prp«« .Aiioelatlon. ' Auckland, November 17. The Hon. A. M, Myers opened his election campaign to-night. Mr. Myers received a good reception, and was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence. He dealt at length with the question of his nationality. "During the fourteen years of my public life," he eaid, "never before has the question of my religion and tho birth-plnce of my parents been raised. I regret, however, that some half-dozen ladies, headed by one whose parents wero lwrn in Hanover, have endeiiroured to damago my political career and hurt my most sacred feelings." Mr. Myers then went on to say that his father's family had resided in England for over two hundred years. His grandfather was sent as Rabbi to Russian Poland, where his father was born. The city of his birth, Thorn, was at the time of his birth technically in Prussia, having been annexed by that country. As was known this .city had again been restored to Poland by la.st year's Peace Treaty. His father returned to England until "he emigrated to Australia, where ho (Mr. Myers) was born. He said lhat from the ashes of the old Liberal Party was going lo spring a new Liberal Party, which would do better work even than the old oi'C, and would bo a benefit ami a blessing to tho community. CANDIDATES' MEETINGS. Dr. A. K. Newman, the sitting member for Wellington East, will open his campaign to-night, when ho will address tho electors at Oriental Bay Kiosk. Lieut-Colonel G. Mitchell, D.5.0., Independent candidate for Wellington South, will rildress electors at Fuliford's Hall, Brooklyn, to-night, at 8 o'clock. The Reform cundidatc fnr (he Olaki seat, Mr. W. IT. Field, will address tho electors to-night at Kopntaro'n. Mr. R, A. Wri»hfc will address tho electors in the Khandalluh Town Hall this evening, and ,in die Methodist Church, Ngnio, on Thursday. Mr. J. P. Luke will address the electors of the Wellington North electorate on Thursday in tho Sydney Street, schoolroom. Mr. W. Croskery, the Labour candidate for the Suburbs sent, will deliver an address in the Masonic Hall, Scatoiin, tonight. Mr. P. Fraser.
