Comparison of Strength. Two women graduates of Lchnd Stanford University, California, have lately, been investigating the comparative muscular strengtn'ot men and women, slates the "Manchester Guardian. _ J.hey nave reached the general conclusion that any difference that exists in this lnatver u> not due to sex as such, but to diterences "n the use of the muscles, brought about hv the conventional limitations oi activitv or bv dress. Thus, women s. back muscles, are stronger than men s becauso ir clothes are largely buttoned in the back- Certain of their arm nuibc 1 s are ' ili kWnger, owing to the fact that they 'do up their hair and also because the . °avv coat sleeves of men limit the freedom "of action of these muscles. . On the f Her han.i, the'forearm of men .s better 1 'eoi'cd than that of women, because ! -oiuen wear tight sleeves and do not ciisoi arilv lift heavy -rciglits. The muuiry s important in relation to tho question of cmplovinent suitable for women, the American investigators suggest that sex is not so much of a disability as is.commonly supposed, provided Ina methods ~,-e devised uf adjusting work to the individual strength under proper tyjnemc conditions. At an examination, held under the allspices of the Petoue branch of the St. John Ambulance Association, the following were successful:—Misses Ti. AMI-' son A. Uodd, N. Johnson, N.
