The weather has been fine all the week and the going will be fast. Affectation is an unlikely starter in the Gold Cup, for which R. J. Mason will slart .both Gleaming and Rossini. The only other competitor will be "Desert Gold, but the old mare seems to have lost her form, and can have but little chance of success. All the acceptors will start in the Suburban Hurdles. Form points to San Sebastian and Achillcdes. and as the field is a very weak one, tho last-named, who is a great jumper with lots of pace, may win from end to end. There is a big field in ihe Cressy Welter Handicap, and the class is good. Asti 1101110 was doing her best to win 011 Wednesday and should lie held safe bv several of the others tiwlay. Bon Spec may be a good favourite, and it will lie interesting b see how he shapes in the class which is above that, which he usually meets in (he south. Ermine will have n good following, and so will Arrli Lassie, who g"t a ver.v bad passage on Wednesday and was finishing f.ister than anything else in the race. She. is to have the services of Roy Reed. If Deeley rides Paistalf in the S"v. mour Hack Handicap there will be plenty of support for the Comedy Kin" three-year-old, who is just getting into racing shape. He does not appear to have anv the'best of the weights, but his winning effort at Trentham stamped him as a very useful horse. The extra furious will not trouble Flight Commander, who should again run well. Onslaught. Maiolia. and Punka mav tie backed in that, order for the Afeinlters' Handicap. _ The first-named is all fie better for his race in the Stewards' Handicap, and galloped a very fast five furlongs on Thursday morning. Kleus will be scratched foe the racn and reserved for the Fendalton Handicap. The Pioneer Handicap is e» op»n race, and with the exception of tho two bottom weights all Ihe runners will be well fanei'ed. Deeley will have the ninint on Listening Post, which fuel will occasion plenty of sunnort for the southern voppgster. T, a , „ol: off lwHy on Wednesday, but finished verv well.
