The New Zealand Waterside Workers' Federation has, as the result of a ballot iust completed, adopted by a fiubstan,'tial majonty of votes the following important pi'o'posnl.s regarding control of work on the waterfront:— ' ."()) That in ports where there is ho local branch if the shipping company concerned, or where the coi'.ipnny agrees that; the work may be clone by the unions and federation, the union shall appoint a foreman to engage labour, and a foreman or foremen to supei'inteno work of loadinc. discharging, or any other work which mav be undertaken. The basis of this work shiill bo that the men shall bo paid the current hourly rate of wages according to the cles.i of work tliev arc; engaged- <m, and the federation and unions affiliated shall receive a percentage bonus on the wages paid to the men working the vcswl.
