MUNICIPAL HOUSING VENTURE
A SHORTAGE OF LABOUR,
Tho following recommendation appear cd in tha report of the Housing Committee of the City Council last evening : -"That the Trad* nnd Labour Council bo informed, in reply to their letter urging tho council to press forward with the housing that everything possiblo is being done in tins direction; but that shortage of labour is the chief difficulty, to overcome which tho co-operation of the Trades Council will be heartily welcomed. Councillor W. H. Bennett, in moving tho adoption of tha committees report, said that considering the amount ot labour available, the progress being rando was satisfactory. At Northland the concrete foundations of two houses had been completed, and tho framework was up for the first. The roads were boing pushed on, and as far as Hie | Itonsim' Committee could see the officers in charge of the work were doing everything in their power to top down the cost of the bnilW They seemed to, be working in a very methodical manner. It wo? hoped that ::n nilcqui.te mippiv of labour for tho Northland .cottages at least would bo obtninal.il; in the near future. ■ ■ , Tho report was-miomed.
