The Canterbury Jockey Club's .Metropolitan ..Meeting was contiiiuea in ideal weather. The atlendance was up to the average, uiul the track was in improved order. The totalisator handled J.IiO,GS(i, against 0:11,731 on the col responding day last veil'. There were only three runners in the Port Cooper Hurdles, and the top-weight, Piiraoa, whs made a good favourite. Achilledes set the pace, and soon had the field tailing behind him. Down the back the top-weight moved up, but at the second fence from homo no struck heavily, and fell back. He came again in the straight, .but was beatoa a length by Hylans. Achillodes was two lein'tlis away. . All started in the Spring Nursery Handicap, Listening Post and Gasbag dividing the machine honours. lho favourite was always in the van, and. leading throughout, he won comfortably from « : .-ikc, with La Paix in third place, and Gasbag next. The two last-named were not lucky in running. All but Piiriioa were saddled up for Ihe Otaio Plate. Seasprilc, First Salute. Ctlcnshinc, and Slarland all carrying over four figures. Binghnni had a break on the field into the straight, where Stavland ran him <lown, but the effort told, and he gave way to First Salute. Over (he Inst bit Glonshinc and Wardancer joined in, and, after a good struggle, First Salute won by a head, with Glenshine a neck away. Then came Starland and Seasprite. All the acceptors started in (he Canterbury Cup. Afterglow being made favourite, .with Vagabond second choice. It was a' much "better race than the Derby and there was a good pace on (lie whole way. Affectation led for the first half-mile,' and then Kilmoon took charge, but the. field did not string out, for at the mile post Mascot moved up, and two furlongs further on she was in charge,, with Kilmoon, Vagabond, Affectation and Battle Song close up. Mascot led into the straight, where Vagabond ran into second place, but (shortly afterwards Affectation came again, and Lucid shot though on the rails. Mascot won well bv a couple of lengths, while Lucid b?at WTcetation by a head. Kilmoon was fourth, and Vagabond fifth, with Afterglow beaten off. All started in the Jockey Club Ilai)dieap, which resulted in a rather comfortable win for Maioha, who began smartly, and was prominent behind the leaders' thcwholc way. Silver Link and Inah were quickly in front, and led the winner past the half-mile, where Demos came down, and interfered with Hurry Up and Tigritiya. Maioha was in charge as they came into the straight, with Silver Link and Kipling handv. Elena then put in a rush on the outside, and though he passed the tiring. Silver Link, ho could not. reach Maiolia, who'won comfortably by two lengths. Kipling was fourth.' Lovelock. Ermine, anil Link Tip declined their engagement in the Oaks and Wnrlovc was mndn « bctlcr favourite than Rose, Wreath. The latter bolted twice before the start, but when the barrier rose slip got all the best of it. and led past Cutts's.
