GOOD-BYE "FLAPPERS"
NO "LOW NECKS" IN THE TRANSPORT MINISTRY. It doos not please Sir Brio Geddes, Minister of Transport, to see "flappers" in Government, offices. He objects to the low-necked blouses, "flashy" dresses, gossip in corridors and organised tea parties. So, as ho has no use for them, the staff at the offices of tho newly-formod Ministry will bo sedate in manner and almost sombrely attired. There are only two "flappers," who were recommended for transfer from another Department. "Although their ages aro only 17," a woman secretary is reported in the "Daily Express" as saying, "they aro not n bit"'flapperish.' They are staid young filings, good, hard workers, and not over fond of tea or jumpers, and they are never found gossiping. "Sir Eric does not like to see crowds of thoso young people about. I am told that ho dislikes very much 'loud' apparel, and , particularly low necks, and he has no ti'mo for their childish laughter and chattering. He hns expressed a wish that the woman members of his staff shall he staid, and wear—well, 'quietish' clothes. "'Flappers'' days are over, as far n* this Department is concerned. It is going to be a live' Ministry on businesslike lines, with as small a staff as possible."
