GUINEAS TO CRENIDES WEARY WILLIE'S WELCOME STAKES By Telegrnph-Spocial Correspondent.' Auckland, November 8. The weather was fine, but dull, for the first day of the Auckland Racing Club's Spring Meeting. Tinokulia made the running for Hie greater part of the journey, but Crenides, with Iletaua in close attendance, came at him as the field entered the straight. Tinokaha was soon disposed 'of, but Helaua could not get on terms with Crenides, who won comfortably by several lengths. Archie, who came fast at the finish, beat T'inokaha for third place. The Welcome Stakes attracted a fiokl of fifteen horses. Lucullan, Weary Willie, and Landslide being made favourites. Weary Willie was the first to show nut, with Landslide in close attendance. Coming down the hill for home Signature mado an effort, but again fell , back, Tenacious winning with a lot to spare from Tirau. Signature having to be content with third place. He pulled up lame. Queen Abbey and Tnimai fought out a great finish in the Shorts Handicap. They singled themselves out at the entrance to the straight and went stride for stride to tho po?t. Queen Abbey winning b» half a length. Tho Mitchelson Cun was well won by Depredation. Some Boy was'the first to show out, bul King Lum'ti was soon alongside him.
