WELLINGTON COLLEGE

ANNUAL SPORTS MEETING

The annual athletic sports of Wellington College wero held' at the college grounds yesterday in bcautitul weather. Tu all the events competition was keen, and some good times were recorded., One record was broken during the day.' This was in the Long Jump. Handicap, the previous record lor which was 2fll'l. -i',in., established by J,. 11. Welch in 1015. Yesterday, the event was won by N. S. Nicol, who. from scratch, made a'jump of 20ft. lOJin. Young Nicol diu' particularly well during the day in various events, and lie annexed Ihe Luke Cup by winning the tlOyds. Championship. Weil over one thousand profile were snectaters of iho sports, the visitors including the .Mayor and Mavoross (Mr. and Mrf. Luke), Brigadier-General G. S. Richardson, and a number of officers of the Headouarters Staff. Musical items were contributed bv the Patriotic Societv's Hand.

Taylor, and bathers: hnndicappers, Mr. Millard and the General Committee; judges of walking. Mr. firth and Mr. Leslie.

At tho close of the programme the prizes were presented to the successful contestants by Mrs. J. P. Firth.
