PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY

By Telegraph. Christchurch, November 7. ■ To-dav. at the eleventh hour, there is no change in the market for the Cup. During the last forty-eight hours there has been such a run on Gay Lad that ho is now off the lifts, and none of the 1 avers has any money to offer against him. He will be the hottest favourite of recent years, and Nobleman will be second choice. It is understood that Mr. H. W. Brown has purchased Kilrush, antf the Kilbroney fielding will carry his colours in the Cup. The weather is fine and the town is crowded with visitors. It is expected to be n record meeting in every way. The Stewards Handicap is very open, but Desert 'lold sprinted remarkably well this morning, and she will have a host of friends for the big sprint race; so. too. will Silver Link, Onslaught, and Bon Spew Parana is a better class than the lot ho will meet in the Spring Huroles. He mav be favourite, though, in the south, Hvlans is regarded as a greatly, improved horse. The Spring Plate is also a very hard race to anticipate, but Counterscarp, from the Chokehore Lodge, and Seasprite will not lack backers. The former.ran a verv fast half-mile on Thursday, and it was the best gallop of the morning. Seasprite is carrying just two stone less than she won with at Wanganui. There is a big field of eighteen in the Limvood Handicap, and several of them will be well backed, including Early Dawn, a winner at the Hastings meeting.
