GREAT DISPLAY OF JUMPING

By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent. Palmerston North, Novomber 7. Although the weather had been unfav. ourable for the first two days of (ho Manawatu Show, it was simply perfect, with brilliant sunshine for People's Day, when the Exhibition closed. Today the ring competitions were continued, and wound up with jumping competitions. Betwcon. 15,000 and 20,000 people attended, which is close upon a rocord for this fixture. The roundings started with classes for tho best girl and boy riders between 12 and 15. In.the former, the girls gave a fine exhibition in handling their ponies, the performances being more finished than those of the boys. Miss D. Cave, of Palmerston North, won, with . Miss M. Hastings second, and tho special for the youngest rider went to Miss R. Montgomery, of Kauwhata. The hoys showed fair hands, but some of them did not display good seats. K. Drummond, of Aorangi, was placed first, with B. Vautier, of Whakaronga, second, the special prize for the youngest rider falling to N. N. Webb, of Palmerston North. In the class for lady maiden riders, Miss Armstrong, of Akitio, was first. Miss D. Cave, who won in the juuior / class, was second, and Miss Baliner, of Eaumai, third. The olnsa for lady rider astride brought out all the well-known equestriennes in Hawko's Bay, Wnirarapa, nnd Manawatu show rings, and fino horsemanship was shown. Mrs. Gronune (Hastings) was first, Mrs. D. Bekker (Castleeliff) second, and Miss C. Brice (Hinau) third. ' In the lady and gentleman hack pair competition, Miss Maher's Stylish Ba-•-'chelor and--Romeo were placed first. The judges could not agree as to tho second place between H. Hassnll's (Hastings) champion Captain Glnssop and Micky Free and B. W. Harvey's Braemar and . Mack. Mr. Griffiths Smith, the wellknown Canterbury judge, was called in, and eventually placed Hassnll's pair second and Harvey's third. Wire jumping brought out a good field of eighteen, and the exhibition was one of the best seen on any showground, not a single horse making a, mistake. H'. Brewer's (Hawera) Utility, ridden by B.

Gordon, was first, J. J. Bryce's. (Hinau) ""Twilight second, and Miss B. Maker's (Hastings) Romeo third. The champion open hunters' conipeti\ tion brought out a strong class of 22 including all the best-known performers of the North Island show rings, nnd an excellent exhibition of riding and jumping followed. Tho obstacles included two hurdles, two hencoops, wire jump, and brush, double, concluding with a brush fence and water jump. The majority of the animals got round without touching the obstacles, and judging had to be on style. Mrs. D. J. Riddiford's (Marton) Dugald was first. W. J. Simpson's (Marton) Mac second (both ridden by G. (Smith), and W. It, Brewer's (Hawera) _ x Utility, with Budge Gordon up, third. Good performances were also put un bv J. J. Bryce's Twilwht. Miss D. Bekker's (Castleeliff) Gale, J. Henderson's (Hastings) Quaker, R. Scott's (Aokautere) Co- '*• leer's Prince, the Rev. M. Doolashty's (Opnnake) Hazehvood, N. J., Short's (Feilding) Meteor, Miss W. Hobson's (Takapau) Daylight, J. Bryce's (Marton) Bill, and H. HassaU's (Hastings) Mickey Tree.

The chnmmonship in the hacks was awarded to H. Hassall's Captain Qloesov. The pedigree stock snle in connection with the show was held on the grounds this morning. There was a sir.all attendance and tho bidding was slack. Messrs. Dalgety, Levin and Co., and the Loan and Mercantile Agencv offered about a dozen head of Shorthorns, Freisians, Ayrshires. and Jerseys onlv. The following sales were made:—Mr. AV. Howard Booth (Carterton), Shorthorn heifer, 115gns„ to .T. Holden. Gisborne; Mr. S. R. : Lancaster, Palmerston North, two Jersey heifers, at 54 and 07gns.; the Anderson Bros. (Levin), for Mr. A. J. Gollichan (E-ntreiotn), Friosian bull, 34gns., to Mr. G. Shannon (Feilding), and for Mr. E. Son they, yearling Jersey bull, SOgus., to Mr. J'. Marshall (Tnumarunui).
