NOTES FROM RICCARTON
TIIE FINAL GALLOPS,
By Telegraph—Special Correspondent.
Christchurch, November 0. Murray Hobbs, trainer of Gay Lad, the Cup fancy, thinks the eon of Cellini is the best horse ho ever had in his stables. Some of the critics will not regard the imported horse as a certainty for tlie Cup, because ho has not had a run in public, but Hobbs is not one of these, and ho states that his charge is a verv free worker, knows nothing but galloping, so he does not want a race. As for his staying ability, which has to bn taken somewhat on trust, it' is pointed out that when only a few weeks out of tho paddock he won a mile (run two years ago), aim' was going on at the end, in a miic run in Jmin. llsec. His track work has been of a very high order, and ho regularly does his work in anything from two to three seconds faster than anything c'.se that gallops.' During the last two days Ivilrush has Rono back in the market, but Nobleman has firmed, and is .now a good second choice. This morning lie beat Affectation over tori furlongs, and the gallop greatly impressed tho touts. Mr. A.
