Sir,—l iioticed an article in. one of vour editions where an old resident was speaking re stocks. My father, in 1843, who was a public official at Nelson, put a woman into stocks. She was so jeered at that my father was very much ashamed at having: placed the woman in such an ignolninous position. Ho was ordered to do tho same again, but rather than repeat the operation he burnt the stocks.—l am, etc., If. W. FAIR.ET. Nelson.
