REPRESENTATIVE CRICKET TEAMS
NEGLECTED JUNIORS. Sir—Beading the report of the Wellington Criekec Association's committee which was published in. u recent issue, [ was astonished to read that this committee had deeided that a small portion of their funds'could not be utilised in eciMiiiiy a junior representative team awav for the Christmas holidays. Why not do the same to the senior players? What I want to know is, who provides' the upkeep of this association? They would rely on a rotten stick if the.v relied on the senior players, who total six teams—some sixty-six players—while the junior snide total twenty teams—some two hundred and twenty players—whose fers enable this association to chase on a forlorn hope after the Plunket Shield. T have also read in a previous report of this committer, of the representative fixlures for the ensuing season for senior (?) players only, for trips from one end of New Zealand to the other, and at whose expense? Take Auckland, Canterbury, o" the Olago Associations. They have their junior representative fixtures as well us the senior, hut: not so in this cilv. All one has to <»i is to look at the names of players in the repre=on!ative tarn some ye,its back, and you will seo somo of tho same players still in, A younger and more active player never gets a chance, especially when n free trip is in siirlit. When a team was wanted who had to pay their own expenses for Wanganui, then tho junior grade players were approached. Where were these senior players? Too busy? Hut wait and see when there's a free trip, and thov will be there like a swarm of be n s around a hive. What is wanted by the juniors is to have a full and young re presentation on this eonnuillee. and not rnlv on old "has liecns." Trailing. Sir, vou will publish this 011 behalf of the junior crioke!pv.« of this oily. Thanking ■lon in anticip<ition.—l' am, etc.. BEHN.UID CAItLTON.
