THE FERRY SERVICE. -It is anticipated that, the WellingtonLyttelton ferfy servleo ivill be again maintained by the end of this year by tho Maori and Wahiuo (says the Dunedin "Star"). The former hau been delayed in her overhaul .it Port Chalmers owiug to a Bhortago of skilled labour, but strenuous efforts are- being made to havo her ready tc rosume, running about the middle of this month. The work of reconditioning the Wahino by. the Admiralty at Dumbarton has been greatly delayed owing to the labour conditions at Home. Tho Hincmoa, which left Wellington on Friday, on reaching Port Underwood that evening had to shelter owing to the strong northerly wind. The vessel got under way again on Saturday morning, nnd although she encountered a strong southerly wind' she waa able to land the lighthouse keeper and his wife at Cape Campbell. ,',. i Private cable messages from India advise that the rale of freight, from ' Calcutta to main Australian ports, which waa fixed to .the end of the year, has been extended on the saino banis to the end of .March.'
