THE VETERANS' HOME

The annual meeting of the governors of the Veterans' Home, Auckland, was held in Wellington on Monday, liis Excellency the Governor-General (the Earl of Liverpool) presiding. Tho annual balance-sheet and report We adopted, nnd the report of the superintendent was nlso received and read. Tho accumulated funds now amount to £11, M, plus ,£SOO held in trust. Tho average number of veterans in the home last year was 30 per month, and there aro 27 in the homo at. the present dnte. Buildings and furniture are valued at .£6315. As the veterans are rapidly dying out, the queatioirof future conduct and uses of the home is to bo considered at a special meeting of tho board to bo held early next year. His Excellency tho Governor-General was re-elected president, and tlio Hon. Edwin Mitehelson and Colonel R. J. Collins, C.M.G., wero re-elected hen. treasurer and lion, .secretary respectively. Hearty votes of thanks wero passed to the Auckland conimitteo of management, and to all others who have given thoir services gratuitously for tho benefit of the, home. The board is pleased to note the continued good management of tlio institution by tlio superintendent, Major Carpenter.
