iFroni Our Special Correspondents.) WAIHARAPA Mr. A. 1). M'Lcod, Kci'onii candidate, was accorded a favourable reception at I'Vatlicrston on Monday night. At the conclusion of liis address a number of questions were asked covering educational and local body questions. Un the motion i.f Sir. M. If. Kemlall, seconded by -Mr. G. H. Gulyor, a bearly vote of thanks wa.s accorded the candidate.

The monthly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held last night;. Tho application of the Acclimatisation Society for the remission of rates on tlio fish-ponds was refuted. A resolution passed by Ihe Wanganui Borough Council in reference to the appointment of Professor von Zcdlitz to Victoria College, a copy of which was forwarded to the coL'ncil, was considered to bo premature, and.the letter was received. A deputation waited on the council to putforward a proposal to build a tepid bath where tho Dixon Street baths now stand. Consideration of the proposal was promised, the town clerk to report on tho matter. Mr. A. P. Whatman wrote asking that the council includo in tho borough an area of 1J acres on the Upper Plai.n, which he (Mr. Whatman) had presented to tho Government for tho purpose of erecting soldiers' dwellings. It was resolved to give every facility for tho inclusion of tho area, provided the County Council was agreeable. \ committee, including the Mayor (Mr. W. 11. Jackson), was appointed to inquiro into a proposal that by tho payment of the- simn of *C 25 tho Cricket Association should have control of the park oval for tho cricket season. In pursuance of the council's policy to provide open spaces in the borough, a committee was fiot up to select from tho various tenilms submitted. It was stated that as this was a progressive movement in the general policy of town planning, it was desirable that as many sections as possible should bs acquired, wliilst the opportunity offered. The hope was nlso expressed that privatb property owners woul'.d make a gift to tlio town of suit' nblo areas.
