MIRAMAR BOROUGH
0 Tlio fortnightly meeting of tho Miramar Borough Council was held last evening. The AJnyor (Air. S.-Stone) presided, and there were present Councillors E. J. Harnett. J. Hicks, H. J\. Hobertshnv' B. F. Gardiner, E. Collie, and Airs. M'Vicar. The Mayor reported that on Labour Day the borough trams made a profit of .£8 15s. fld.. On the Jliramar line 213 penny tickets, and 48G 2d. tickets were sold, and on tho Soatoun line (120 penny tickets and 17G9 tickets at 2d. The total receipts on the two lines for the day were .617 (is. 6ri., and the mileage charge amounted to £\3 9s. 'Die Mayor also reported that the New Zealand Kubbor Products, Ltd., had purchased '21 acres near Lahmann Home, and were endeavouring to arrange with Atiramar, Ltd. about drainage. Tho manager of the company was to meet a special commit toe of, the borough council to arrange certain matters. • The Wellington Catholic Education Board was granted the use ot Soatoun .Park for a picnic on Boxing Day, on tho usual terms. The Wellington Gas Company wrote regretting Hint liquor from Hie tar tanks had over/lowed on to King's TCoad, thereby causing damage. The company explained Hint owing to the shipping shortage, difficulty had been experienced 'n forwarding the tar to Wnngnnui. It wan further stated in the letter that the company which took the tar at Wancanui was cousideriiiT the advisability of starting works al Atiramar or somewhere in the neighbourhood: this, together wilh tho fact that shipping facilities had improved, enabled the company I" promise that the trouble would be immediately removed. A. letter was received from the Wol. lingtnn City Council stating that after exhaustive consideration the city could not see its way to agree to the terms proposed by the borough with respect to amalgamation.
