Mr. Hughes"; the Prime Minister, explains that the Government proposes to cover tho JC25,0C1),0(10 bonds to be issued as a, war gratuity in the following manner:— Firstly, the Treasury to take up at least half a million of them annually. Secondly, to earmark the whole of Australia's share of the German indemnity, estimated at between seven and fifteen millions, due in May, 1921, for the redemption of bonds. Thirdly, if the indemnity received by the date named bo below teii millions, the Government to make good the deficicnev up to ten million. '■■•'• Fourthly, the Government to redeem tho balance of tho outstanding' bond! after May, lOL'I, in not more than thrco annual instalments. The Government undertakes to accept bonds as a cash cciuivaleut for all purposes under tho Keimtrmlimi Department . including land .settlement, homo building, tho purchase of. businesses, or cash them in the case of 'hardship or urgency, or when a soldier marries or a widow re-marries.—Press Assn. ,
