EASTBOURNE SOCIAL CLUB

The closing night of the season, held on Saturday, was attended by fully M members and their friends. The president (Mr. W.' Bennett) occupied the chair. Tho musical, programme pre- ■ sented was of a very high standard, each itein receiving a well-deserved encore. Tho club's orchestra, augmented by Mr. Cummins nnd a party from Wellington, rendered delightful selections. Tho rich baritone voice of Mr. T. Touhy was highly appreciated, and little Miss Meg. Ciiuino captivated tho audience with a song and dance. Mr. J. H. Parker gave n cornet soio, and Miss Ivy Rodda was heard to advantrga in _two vocal numbers. Messrs. Clark, Richer, and Probert combined in a trio' for violin and piano, th« piece selected being "Past and Present." Miss Hazel Jeffreys received a well-deserved recall ior her recitation. Mr. A. J Pearly sang "Till tho Sands of the Desert Grow Cold," and Mr. J. Zakariah kept tho audienco in simmers of laughter with his humorous stories and his imitation of mi elocutionist with an artificial arm. Mr. Les. Probert's Jazz novelty raised the audienco to a pitch of enthusiasm. Miss Olga le Chateau gavo a charmin" exhibition of toe dancing. A musical monologue by Mr. Phipps Williams was also encored. The programme concluded with a sketch, "The Fortune Teller," played by Misses Shearer and Sanders. During tile evening Mrs. Marqui* tho wife of the secretary, was presented with a plated breakfast dish as a token of appreciation from tho members for the untiring efforts of herself and husband during tho season. Mr. Marquis in thanking the members for the presentation, stated that he highly appreciated tho fnct that tho members roco»msed tho silent work done by Mrs Marquis, who had so ably assist\l him to mako the season so successful. ' Ho' also stated that if his efforts had given the members pleasure he felt amply rewarded, and he hoped next year to seo the membership doubled.
