The r New Zealand-owned Surveyor will probably be allowed to tako his place in i the field, but though his success would i be popular it seems to bo too much to > hopofor, and both Richmond Main and Artilleryman appear certain to hold, him safe. Latest . accounts from Riccarton are most enthusiastic as to tho track work of tho New Zealand Cup fancy Gay Lad. Twice last week lio galloped m good style, and put up fast times. Tho consensus of opinion is that if he is - beaten it will if becauso lie was unable i to have a race before tho Cup meeting. : Somo sixteen yearlings bred at the ■ Waikanao Stud are to ho shipped to I livttelton early next week, and will bo 1 sold at tho Christoluivch sales on Thura- ; dav, November 13. At tho Epsom meeting last June he won the Royal Stakes Handicap in a poor field, carrying 7st. 81b., but it was a six furlong race, which appeared to be his best distance.
