_s « EMPLOYMENT AND INTERNMENT. A report that a German enirineer and two other Germans -were employed on railway construction works in the North Auckland district was mentioned in the H'ius" of Representatives bv Dr. Thaeker (CVhtchurch East). What was the Gov. eminent doing with the Germans who had been interned during the war, asked the -member. He had seen a prominent German walking the streets of Wellington. Sir James Allen replied that some Germans had been released on parole. Others were still interned. A committee had been set hn to advise the Government how tho Germans should be dealt with. Sir Willinm Eraser said that the Public Works Department nf.nnre time employed 180 Jugo-Sl.w, who otherwise would have been interned. The engineer referred to bv Dr. Thaeker had been most of his life in this country. He was or German origin, bu.l he was a very °oid mon. a competent man.
