A "WELCOME HOME."
D.I.C. emplovces who went on active service were given a, "welcome heme" in (he firm's rooms on Friday evening. Iho manager (Mr. W. &mm) presided ov«r a large assemblage, which gave, the bo>s an enthusiastic greeting. Over twenty members of the staff went on active,service, two making the supreme sacrificeCaptain A. Erandi (killed on Gallipoli) and Sergeant Stirrat (killed on the Siimme). Tho returned men present —Lieutenants Abbott, tonkin, and Warnock; Sergeants de Clifton and Parsons; Lce.-Corporal Broughton, jf.)miner Louisson, Trooper Mackintosh, Rifleman Taylor, nnd Privates Clarke, Dyer, Hardy, and Lazarus. During tho evening thero was dancing, interspersed with cnjuyublc items by the following ;-Mi«s Orange, Lce.-Corporal jlrougbton (who was a member of ono ot the "Digger" enlertainilig troupes), and .Messrs. M'Carthy and Enncourl. Supper was provided, and during this Mr. Siinm proposed tlie health of tho guests. Ho referred in eulogistic terms to tho services rendered by tho members of the firm's stall' in helping to bring the great war to a successful conclusion. It was also gratityiug. ho said, to find (hat the men "had come back even better lilted to carry on their work in the interests of, (he'firm, their positions having been kept open for them during the wliolo period of their absence. On their return they appeared to be keen to settle down io civil work; thero was not a slacker among them. Tho toast was hour til v honoured, and oil behalf of iho "Diggers," Lieutenant Renkin suitably responded.
