THE MEAT TRADE QUESTION OF THE COMMANDEER, Tho cablo news message appearing in tha Saturday papers relating to tho meat position in England, and the statement of the Secretary of the Food Ministry that some form of Government control of meat might be needed, was brought under tho notico of tho Prime Minister by Mr. W. 11. Field in the, House of Representatives on Saturday liight. He said that apparently the Imperial Government proposed to take some action to combat the operations of the Meat Trust, and he asked the Prime Minister •whether ho had any information as to ■whether the Imperial Government would lie desirous of extending the requisition of New Zealand meat. Mj. Massey mid that ho had seen tho paragraph quoted. All ho could say warding it was that he was aware that the Imperial Government intended to take steps to stop the operations of tlio Blent Trust in connection with supplies for tho people of Great Britain. He had communicated with tho ■High Commissioner apking for information as to whether the Imperial Government was witling to extend the commnndeor erf New Zeftlowl meat, but he had not -vet. had a reply.
