WEARING THE END BUSY NIGHT ON VARIOUS BILLS LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL The Legislative Council met at 11 a.m. on Saturday, and almost immediately adjourned to sit again at 2.39 p.m. Several local Bills were reported from committees. The Government Railways Amendment Bill was received from the House of Representatives and read a first time. The New Zealand Institute of Architects Amendment Bill was read a third (imp. SIB FRANCIS BELT, moved for leavo to introduce the Electric Tower Boards Amendment Bill. The Bill was introduced and read a first time. The amendments to the Housing Bill and the Post and Telegraph Bill were added to the Bills. THE LAND BILL, SIR FRANCTS BELL moved the second reading of the Land Laws Amendment Bill, and explained briefly the effect of tho Bill. The Bill was read a second lime without debate, committed forthwith, and put through all stages. A few amendments, mainly in construction of clauses already in the Bill, were inserted. ELECTRIC POWER BOARDS. STR FRANCIS BELL moved' the second reading of the Electric Power Beards Amendment Bill, explaining lhaf it was purely a technical Bill. The Bill was put through all stages and passed without a word of debate. THE RAILWAYS BILL. STR FRANCIS BULI, moved the second reading of the Government Railways Amendment Bill. 'Hie Hon. .T. T. PAUL said he regretted thnt no provision was made to givo a bonus of, say. Is. a day to the lowerpaid officers of the service, in view of the very high cost of living. Even such n bonus as this would not put the workers on ihe pre-war .standard, and this was not. too.much for the workers to ask. The Bill was read a second time, and straightway nut. through remaining stages—all in five minutes. LOCAL BILLS. Tho Gisbnrno Harbour Bill, the Whangarei Harbour Board Vesting and Empowering Bill, the Wellington City Milk Supply Bill, the Palmerston North Abattoir Bill, and the Victory Park Bill were all passed. The Counei rose at (.20 p.m. to sit ngain at 10.30 a.m. to-day.
