LADIES' PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP WON BY MISS ANDERSON The Wellington Provincial Limes' Golf Championship concluded oil Saturday at llcrctaungn, when .Miss Anderson, of (,'hristchurch, defeated .Miss Tweed, of Wellington, after an interesting match. A bleak southerly wind blew across the links. Nevertheless a large number of enthusiasts followed the players round, and enjoyed the hard-fought contest. Miss Anderson had the advantago "P till rhe eleverith hole, when Miss Tweed improved considerably Tli'e twelfth hole was halved; Miss Tweed won the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth, and had hard luclc .in losing the sixteenth, which was halved in five, and the content ended with -Miss Anoerson 3 up and two to play. Tlio links were in perfect condition, the fairways being almost as keen as the greens, which had been cut every day since the championship commenced. At the conclusion of the match Her Excellencv the Countess of Liverpool presented the' prizes and congratulated the champion, the,runner up, Miss Tweed, and the other prize-winners. Her Excellency was received by Mrs. Marchbanks, who briefly referred to the various nri//e r winners. In a short speech. Her Excellency expressed' pleasure that now that tho war was over golf was onco more regaining its pre-war popularity. DETAILS OF THE PLAY. At the first hole Miss Tweed went out of bounds with her third, and her fourth was far too strong, Miss Anderson was on the green in three, and holed out in five to her opponents six. The second hole was marked by good orives. but Miss Anderson went out of hounds with her second. Miss Tweed wn.s short in her third, and both were L on the green in four, and the hole was halved in six. Miss Andorson went through the green with her second at the third hole, and Miss Tweed was just short. The liolo was halved in four. At the eighth both players opened with good drives, but Miss Tweed halt' tapped her second into the bunker, and i took five to reach the green. Miss Anderson was on in four, and inn holing out in six. became three up again.
