T.lio London correspondent of the "Lytlelton Times," under date August 115, fays:—A Christchurch party, consisting oj' Mr. Georgo Checkley and the Misses Checkley, and Miss Kdna Bruce, are now in -London, having travelled via Panama Canal, calling at Pitcairn, Kingston, Jamaica. and Newport News, and arriving at Tilbury 011 August 11. Tliev wili spewi a few weeks in Scotland while the summer is still at its height, and later visit Ireland andtlie South of England. If travelling facilities permit they intend to spend the coming wiifler on the l?i----viera. in Algeria, and in Kgvpt, returnins to Unghuid in tho spring of next year. The length of their stay in Europe is at present very indefinite, but it is prolwble that they will return to New Zealand via San I'raneisco towards the end of 1920. . Mrs. .James Hannah and her mother, Mrs. Johnson.- are visiting Auckland and Ko.'orua. Mrs. Movie has returned' to Christchurch from Wellington. .Mrs. Porter,. Dominion organising secretary for' tho W.N.1?., leaves early this week 011 a visit fo the north. Miss Jessie Milne has returned to Maeterton from a visit to Hawke's Bay. Mr. and Mrs. TUienne E.-Lelievre, Akaroa. with her four daughters, arrived in London, via Panama and Jamaica, and will remain about six weeks heforo leaving to visit-the battlefields of France and 'Italy, states a London correspondent mi September 10. They will leave Urindisi for Euypt at the end of December, and travel via Inoia', Java, China, and Japan, and should reach Now Zealand in •August or September next year.

The sale is to )>o a "cherry-blossom sole," and the whale scheme of .decoration is to bo that of a cherry garden. Miss Butler's concert party aro giving- an entertainment on the first evening. The programme for the second afternoon will bo provided 'by the. children of St. Paul's School, and that for the evening by Miss Nesta Canu'K-Cooke's pupils and St. Paul's choir-boys. Anniversary services in connection with the Lower Hutt Church of Christ were held yesterday. The church had been prettily decorated, tho scheme being carried out in Iycopodium and lilies. Hayes's annunl sale in aid of St. Marv's Home took place on Saturdav at her residence in ICarori. The weather was fine, and thero was a fairly good altendance of people interested in I lie home. Excellent cake, made by Mrs. Haves and her friends.* found a rcadv, sale. . Tin; fancy stall was well slocked, ami (hew were beautiful flowers and sweets. Afternoon ten was served in two rooms, and much appreciated, many of the guesls having gono out from town. Girls of St. Mary's Home served the tea very daintily, and' were assisted bv friends of Mrs. Hayes. The youthful stallholders were: Miss Mar.iorie Haves and the Misses Tomfool. Hadfield (11. M'Lenuan (2), Myers, Thomas (2). and Young. A ring presented by a well-wisher was the prize in a guessing competition. The botlle, when opened, was found to contain 2(121) shot. Mr. H. Russell, of ICarori, won tho prize by guessing only one short of the number. Mr. A. Maile came second. The net proceeds for the afternoon were .£■!!).
The weekly dances promoted by the Social Committee of the Wellington 'North Hnmch of the New Zealand Lai'lom' !Par!v, have been brought to an end' for this year. At the conclusion of the final tixlnro of the- series there were Iwo lileosant; interludes, when Mr. Walsh, president of the branch, made two presentations on behalf of the Social Coraniilleo and I lie regular attenders at tho da new. The first was a walking-slick to Mr. W. H. The other recipient was "Mrs. Snow, president of the Social Committee, upon whom, Mr. Walsh stated, the greater portion nf the necessarily arduous work fell. Mrs. Snow ha"- been indefatigable in her efforts, and that I her have been highly appreciated was evidenced bv the encomiums bestowed on Hie results of her work by those present. The general colour scheme of the chorus was carried out in different shades of vellow. heliotrope, blue, and green, dm dresses natlcrned wilh birds, flowers, and leaves m rich and sHking colours. The prevailing colours of Ihe Guard were nnrnle alio grecu and ihose of the atlendanU ut the Mikado yellow and heliotrope.
