The removal of the embargo on the export. of potatoes has created a. little stir in tho local market. The immediate result is that prices have firmed, but it has not stimulated operations to any npprecia'ble extent. The tendency of the Sydney market at the present time to de- ' ciilie will no doubt limit exports to moder-ately-sized lines. The limit of merchants' offerings at country stations is.iEß 10s. per ton, with little disposition by growers to sell. Evidence as to tho general scarcity of wheat is causing some concern to millers. Oats continue to firm, but with'flio alterations in price. Quotations, for Cartons are -Is. 2(1. to '!s. Id. per ' bushel at country stations. However, dealings are Iracficalv confined to those between merchants. There has been a sharp inquiry for chaff during the past few days, both for local and northern renuiremcnts. A line of 100 sacks was sold to-day for Auckland at >£fi lis. fid.: per ton, and for a line of heavy bright oaten sheaf for local requirements, .i 7 per ton was paid, the price being at country stations.
