An Afternoon Tea, An afternoon tea for Miss T,ydia. Y.W.C.A. Notes. Mis. Ivy I fodder will-he the speaker it the V.'W.C.A. service on Sunday, the special Sunday set apart for the younger ..iris 'Ml girls and young women, [■specially those who may be strangers to tho city, arc warmly invited to allend. Tho usual social will ha hold at the Y.W.C.A. Clubroom, Herbert btroel, ton Mit at 7.30. an excellent programme ot games, music, and solos having been arranged by Misses Caddick and iNtcol. Supper will be provided at the close of the evening by the .Magpie Club. , Miss Parriuhar, who Ims been a workei in the Y.W.C.A. for the past four years, was I'nrewolled at a dinner given by the girl residents of tho Y.W.C.A. Hostel 111 Urougham Street, as she is Ipuvyig to take up duties as matron of the Y.W.C.A. Hostel in lnvercargill. : Much regret was expressed by tho girls nt her departure, and some of the members ot the Hostel Committee spoke of the splendid work Miss Panitihar had dono amongst girls during her stay 111 Wellington. . A Bhort devotional meoting will bo held at tho Y.W.C.A., Herbert, Street, 01; Thursday evening, when Miss Jlayward will give tho address. All Y.W.C.A members are asked lo make a special oltort to attend.
Wedding in Wostern Australia. It will be remembered that the marriage took place recently in Australia of Miss liima Young, daughter of Mrs.L. C. Young, formerly ol Chvistehurch and now of Wellington, to Lieutenant Swain, ,if the Australian Air. Service. Miss Young's last evening as piauiste to the English Pierrots will long bo remembered bv ali Perth. There was 11 packed house, and Miss Young was singled out for especial honour. Oil the concision of her solo number the stage was smothered in flowers, boxes, and brown paper parcels, containing all sorts of lovely presents. Then -Mr. Rob. Thomas ventured on the stage, and said many nice things about his departing pianist, professionally and socially, and at tho conclusion of the evening there was a champagne supper, and more complimentary speeches, tears, and laughter. Miss Young and Mrs. Hall were very well known in Christehurch a few years ago ad very talented pianists. Their duets (0:1 two pianos) with the PJimnier-Hall Company 011 its patriotic tour of New Zealand will bo remembered by many. It is interesting to learn that Miss Elsa Langley was still with the Pierrots when Miss Young took her departure from the company.
Women's Town-Planning Committee, A meeting of Ihe newly-formed women's committee of the Wellington Town-plan-ning Association took place at Messrs. Gold and Arcus's office. There were present Mrs, W. F. lioden, who was in the chair, Mesdames Malhew Holmes, T. W. Porter, M. H. Chatfield, and the Misses Myers and Sheppard. Mr. R. Ilill, secretary of the association, attended the meeting, and explained tlint it had been called to appoint officers for the committee. The following ladies were then elected President, Dr. Platte-Mills; vicepresidenls, Mrs." Corliss and Mrs. W. F. Boden; committee, Mesdames M'Vicar, Bodcn, S. Pethune, P. C. Watt, K. Crawford, Porter, Chatfield, Corliss, M. Holmes, Misses P. Myers, Francis, Sheppard, and Dr. Ada Paterson. It was suggested tliat representative ladies from each suburb should be asked to join the committee, »,lso the ladies who were representatives at the Town-planiiing Conference, and members present agreed to interview tho ladies mentioned on the subject. Suegestions' were forwarded through Mr. Hill to the Men's Committee concerning Ihe vacant spaces in front of Wellington Hospital, the Public Library, edjacent lo the Town Hall, nnd 'between King's Theatre and Manners Street, asking if some beautifying could not be carried out in each place. It was agreed to trv and get information regarding garden suburbs in England from the woman's point, of view, and knowledge of the faults if «nv, which might be avoided here. ' The opinion was expressed that some women slioiiild he upon each of the association's committee.
