LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP. A further stage in the Wellington provincial ladies' golf championship was reached yesterday on the Heretaunga links, wlien the second round was completed. The result of the morning's play was:— Airs. Alarehbanks beat Aliss Withers 3 up aud 2 to play. Aliss Tweed beat Aliss Brandon 3 and

Aliss M'Clure bent Aliss Ward 5 and d.

Aliss Anderson beat Airs. Cobn 1 up. Interest was chiefly centred on the contest between Aliss Tweed and Aliss Brandon, which* was closely contested. Aliss Tweed went out in 42 and came home in 30-81, while Aliss Brandon went out in W and returned in 11—85. Both players were in excellent form and conditions were ideal. At tlie turn Aliss Tweed was 2 up. She lost the eleventh, won the next two holes, and tho following three were halved in 3, 3 and 1.

Both Airs. Alarehbanks and Afisa Withers played well, although the forraer created somewhat of a surprise by her .performance. Aliss M'Clure played a steady gams as against that'of her opponent Miss Ward, and won the eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth, and fourteenth holes coming home.

The contest between Aliss Anderson and Airs. Colin was very interesting, and a very close nlatch. The contestants were all square going out. and Airs. Cohn was one up at the lSfh hole. C*mr ing home Aliss Anderson found her task no light one, as Airs. Cohn played very well. The semi-finals will lie ■ played this morning, when Airs. Alarehbanks .will meet Aliss Tweed, who are about equally matched, and Aliss M'Clure will meet M'ss Anderson. The final will be played to-morrow. For the second handicap medal the best scores were:—Senior: Aliss Tweed, 84—10-71; Miss AVithers, 92-16-76; Airs. Findlny, 96-20-76; Airs. Martin, <M—lß —76; Mrs. Cohn, 93-11-79; Airs. Donald, 72-13-79. Juniors: Aliss West, 101—21—80; Aliss Kennedy, 103—21-32.
