Captain Beaumont; 15 steerage,. THE OITY OF MADRAS. The Ellerman and Bucknall steamer City of Madras made her first' appearance in Auckland waters shortly before noon on Wednesday.' Sho ia of 4634 tons register, and was built iu,1903. She has but recently been released from war service, in which , she plied to and from tho East Indies to England; .Sue coiucb director from New York, though starting originally from Liverpool. She left London ou May 29 for the Capo portß, spending close' on two months about tho .porta of.the African south coast. She loft Cape Town again on August .8 for Boston tnd New York, coaling at St. Vincent. She arrived in Boston on Soptember 6, leaving it in time to escape tho total dislocation of the city by a strike which paralysed business for some days, She' arrived in the metropolis on September 10, and remained thore until. September 23. She then left directly' for Auckland, via Panama. Tho City of Madras was not due at Auckland u(|til to-morrow, but on her present trip seems to-have been breaking all rscords. If it had not been for a patch of bad weather aomo ten days ajro, sho would have reached port even earlier. She has on board some 6000 tons of general cargo, including some American motor-cars. The Hororata is duot early this morning from Napier, and will berth at tre Glasgow Wharf to' complete loading and to bunker. She is to sail for London, via Panama, on Thursday next. • ARGYLLSHIRE FOR LOADING. The F.'and S. steamer Argyllshire is expected to leave Dunedin on Monday for Wellington to .commence Homeward loading. CARGO FOR GISBORNE. The Union Company advise that the Kahika is to sail at noon "to-day for Gisborne, taking cargo. PATEENA'S RUNNING. The Pateena sailed yesterday morning for Picton only, and returned Inst evening. To-day she will nick up her usual running, leaving at 1.30 p.m. for Picton and Nelson. TOFUA'DUE TO-MORROW. Tho Tofua, from San Francisco, via. Papeete and Rarotonga, is due at Wellington to-morrow morning. Sho is advertised to sail 'on tho return trip at 3 p.m, to-morrow week. UNION COMPANY COLLIERS. The Kamo is to return to Greymouth tomorrow afternoon, and wiU again leap* for Wellington. The Kamona is to sail for Greymouth. to-morrow afternoon. The Komata sailed for Westport last evening. The American four-masted sihooner Alert, which came to Dunediu eomo months ago with a' cargo of case oil from San Fraueisco, and which was detained there for nearly three months (.wine to a claim made against the ship for alleged damage to her cargo, made e, quick passage across tho Pacific. The vessel left Duncdin on June 30, and made the run to Pugct Sound in fino weather, in 45 days Advice has been received that the barquentinc E. 11. Sterling left Sydney on Monday afternoon, and arrived at Newcastle on Wednesday afternoon. She will commenco to load coal, and en completion will Bail for Auckland. j The nleam trawler Pilot, which has been encaged in trawling at Tiinaru for several yours, has been purchased Ly the Otago Harbour Board for harbour, work, such as the towing of punts, carrying stone for building retaining walls, and material for repairing the mole at tho heads. She is a' wooden vessel of 39 tons gross register, built at Sydney in 1E64, and fitted with an cDgine of 64 h.p. The Pilot was at one time owned by the Wellington Harbour Ferry Company.
