It is clear tJiat Fetrograd' cannot be taken unless the British Fleot takes Kronsladt. At Ivrasnayagorka the M'Jiile itussians pushed forward too rapidly, and the- Bolshevik big guns on the heights of Pulkova prevented a ilaiiking movement against the defenders of Petrugrad. THE OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUES London, October 2S. A War Office communique states: There is heavy fighting on the 700-mile fisnt from Tsaritsin to Kicff. The Bolslfcviki are making an effort to restore the moral of the retreating troops, and have concentrated in strength against Vorontz and Orel, where they have scored bucceeses, but generally they have failed to stem the advance of the opposing forces. The Don army during the past few days has advanced between <J0 and 50 miles on 120 miles of front between Tsaritsin and Voronetz. Many prisoners were taken and heavy fighting continues in the Voronetz area. Volunteers captured Ycleta, which is the junction of five railways. Denikin's troops, after quitting Orel, njain advanced to the outskirts of tho town,, and made important captures of Bolshevik staffs near Orel. Denikin's troops are advancing successfully about Bryansk. Bryansk, Orel, and Yelets are important in connection with the advance on Moscow, and their possession is "being , hotlv contested.
Trotsky has addresed to tho Bolshevik troops a "message of halo" against tho British. He says that hatred is just and sacred, but concludes: "There are two Englnnde. The toii'ing masses are with us. Long live England's toilers." Denikin's communique stales that Peuikin, during a visit to Odessa, refused a Lettish address, stilting that ho did not. recognise Lefctland's independeiicn. The British have, given Denikin tho Russian dreadnought General Aloxieff, which the British captured .from the Bolsheviki.—Aus.-N.JS. Cable Assn. (Eec. October 29, 7.30 p.m.) London, October 28. A Russian North-west .Army communique states: "A considerable force c.t .Bolsheviki under selected commissaries; from Moscow countcr-aitaekeu immediately south of-Petrograd and compelled General Yudeniteh on Saturday to evacuate Tsarskoa Selo and Pavlovsk. The Reds, including troops from Archangel, again etronyly attacked on Sunday, reenpturing Krasnoe Selo, The Bolshevik attacks have now ceased. The Rods recaptured PlyusKi station, twenty miles #mth-west of Luga. Copenhagen learns that the Bolsheviki are busily transporting troops from tho centre, of Russia in preparation for recapturing Petrogrnd if the city is lost.— Aua.-N.Z. Cable A&sn. He asked the Finnish Government for aid, which was refused.—Renter. THE BLOCKADE OF RUSSIA DISCUSSED BY GERMANY AND SWEDEN. (Rec. October 29, 8.45 p,m.) London, October 27. "The Times" Copenhagen correspondent states that it is reported from Berlin that the National Assembly's Foreign Committee lias recommended Germany not to participate in the blockade of Russia. A secret sitting of the Swedish Parliament is discussing tho blockade. Tho Socialists aro strongly opposing the- proposal.
