Lloyd (Sraemp moved an amendment to the Sex Disqualification Removal Bill, with a view to permitting women to sit in *Ue House of Lords. Sir E. Pollock urged that Hie amendment should not bo pressed, because it encroached upon the privileges of the House of Lords, who should dca'-l v-ith. the onattor. Hi 1 . Graeme asked leave to withdraw his amendment, but the House declined and the amendment was carried by 171 votes to S-1. Sir E. Pollock declined to accept an itmiMulment removing all disabilities against women entering the Civil Service. He said that this was impossible in tho ove.reeas Civil Service, especially in India. The .uuendment was defeated. A new clause was inserted permitting women to breome solicitors after serving ni-tie'.'.es for three, years and possessing existing qualifications for men.—Aus.-N.JS.
