MASTERTON V. WELLINGTON SOUTH. The annual two-round fixture between the above clubs was concluded at tho Newtown Public Library yesterday, when the visitors made a determined effort to regain the ground lost on Saturday evening. Eobbins replaced Jlulycy in'the homo team, and H- E. .ilyors (an Auckland congress player) replaced Mr. 11. Kummer (Mnsterton). The match wan very stubbornlv contested in the later stages, and when the last hour s play was entered on thena was only a dmerence of one point between the two side*. The home team were finally returned winners by twenty-one games to eighteen. Mrs. Gyles and Mrs. Genius, who were amongst the last to finish, agreed to draw'their very oven and interesting game. Each lady had a ihusbaiu*. and eon taking part in the match, which w somewhat in the nature of a record. The first game between lihe two captains ended in" a draw, and the return bout was scored by G. A. Jones, who gamed a piece for a pawn in the mid-game. Honours were easy at Board 3. A. W. Gyles find G. P. Anderson each scoring a win. The second game at Board i lasted over siv hours. F. Kuinmer and F. Rolling finallv agreeing to a draw.
