C: Odlin extended a- hearty welcome to all visitors, ana invited them to'partake of the. hospitality of thfi .club. As 'the club had re;cently los<: its patron, Mr. C. Hill,; all present were asked to stand in silence whilst the club's flag was dipped to his memory. Mr. Bush, ft member of the Dominion Bowling. Centre, spoke, and compHmer.ted the dub on its property, its pleasant surroundings* and wished thorn every success. He recommended all thoso who had got beyond playing more strenuous games to take en bovls. > Ha had been a player for 32 years, and did not know much' about thp game, bufsaid from a' social point of view there ■was no game like it. Mr. R. A. Wright (member for the district), in ! declaring the green' open for play, drew attention to the fa/it that the club's membership had increased by 3G since the club was first opened, and now stood at 77 mem. bers, which must-be a source of gratifiea- • lion to the promoters. It appeared to him that the Bowing Club stood for all that was good in citizenship,- and apparently it had now become the social centre of Island ■ Bay. The Club had also during • the late epidemic r. : sen to the occasion, and its members, had per? formed splendid and unselfish ■ work in , the interests of the district, besides lending their pavilion-and grounds. It showed n very fine spirit indeed.' He wished the club that prosperity which was the : .r due, and; said that he : ;djd. not .think,, the club, could W.'O forging ohe'ad sciMbng as the ladies of'island Bay came forward in • such largo numbers in giving, their assist-, ance and patronage. He read a telegram from tho Rev. Mr. Castle (vicar of Eltham, and a former member of the club), wishing them all good luck. Amidst applause, Mrs. C. C. Odlin,' the, wife of the popular president, threw tho "kitty" and' the games commenced. The club's orchestra, 'nndei the baton of. Mr. Dunning, rendered splendid-music, whioh was appreciated to the full by all present. ■ Hospitality (provided tlw President and his wife) -wias dispensed during the 'afternoon by a score of willing lady helpers, end aU visitors were well catered for.
