DISCUSSED BY CONFERENCE OF MINERS. (Rec. October 20, .1.5 p.m.) London, October 23. A special conference of the Mind's' Federation discussed the high cost of living". Speakers pointed out that prices had risen from 120 to 128 per cent, over pre-war rates siuco tho Profiteering Act came into force, ko it was evident that the Government's scheme had failed. Mr. Frank Hodges admitted that Hie workers ■were moving in n vicious circle, wages travelling after prices. The present excess profits tax was no solution, but excess profits should bo diverted for the purpose of reducing prices. The conference passed a resolution limine Hie summoning of a special trade union congress to decide upon a policy respecting the cost of living— Au,?.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
