A "PEACE" HALL
CLUBS AND SOCIETIES INTERESTED. A meeting'convened by the Wellington Orphans' Club was held in the Y.M.C.A. 'Jtooms on Thursday to consider ways and means of erecting a "Peace" hall for the use of social clubs, asociations, and societies of all kinds—a want that is keenly felt in Wellington. There were present representatives of tiio Orphan.?' Club, tho Wellington Savage Club, the ffewisli Club, tho Choral Union, the "Charley's. Aunt" Club, the Wellington ' 'Employers' Association, CbamUciJi a) Commerce, and other bodies interested in the project. The chair was occupied by Mr. A. E. Bat.t, who emphasised the inconvenience and discomfort many of the clubs were experiencing' owiiw to lack of iv large and well-planned hall, such as would servo tho clubs and societies represented, and expressed tho view that if unity of action were taken a. hall could bo provided, which would moot their needs. A freo discussion ensued, in .the course of which several foa'siblo. proposals were put forward and discussed in ft general way. Finally a committee was set up to go thoroughly into tho question of sites, building proposals, finance, etc. Mr. Herbert- F. Wood- was appointed secretary. Hie committee is lo report at a. later date.
