ANNUAL CONFERENCE
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
The annual conference of the Public Service Association was continued' yesterday under the presidency of Mr. George Allport. The following remits wero passed:— That retiring Public Servants bo allowcd to be honorary member's of the association on payment of Cs. Gd. annual subscription to the "Public Service Journal."
That the subscriptions of members of the Public Service Association bo doducted from salaries, as is now done by the Post and Telegraph Department for members of the Post and Telegraph Officers' Association. That the list of the objects of the Public Service Association in tho book of rules bo added to as follows:—(hi "To promote tho efficiency of tho Public Service'." That the association, through the Executive Committee, after consultation with the section committees, sclect and' nominate candidates for all executive offices which shall bo the gift of the service, and recommend such candidates to the members of tho association for supiiorl. (Note.—At present the. remit refers to tho' elective membership of the Public Service Hoard of Appeal and the Public Service Superannuation Board.) That in scattered districts where a / Kcneral meeting of any one sectionj is ' impossible, provision should be made for the general meeting and election of a local committee of at least three, members in the 6ame manner in which a hection committee is now elected. Such local committee to be the medium of communication with, and to arrange for representation on tho section committee.. That the Publio Service Association, haviuz become aware that an attempt is beinir mode to introduce legislation to extend the terms under which Publio Servants may be granted a retiring allowance from the Superannuation' Fund, and that such proposed amendment seriously restricts the right of present contributors to the fund, and that it will affect the stability of tho fund, it is. the opinion of the association that 110 such legislation should be introducetf unless on tho advice and with the agreement of the Public Service Superannuation Board. Officers Elected. Tho final business of the conference was the election of officers for the cnBuinjr year, which resulted as follows:—
President, Sir. W. M. Wright; victpresidents, Messrs. J. H. Jcrrara and J. R. M'Clune; vice-presidents (ex officio), Messrs, C. jr. Hill, W. M. White, P. B.j Webb, 1". F. M'Kenzie; lion, treasurer, Mr. B. L. Dallard; auditor, Mr. 0. C. Smith. '
The following were elected to the 'Executive Committee as representatives for the various sections:—Wellington, Messrs. W. H., Phillips, C. J.. Hewlett. F. .T. M'Comisky; Aiickland. Mr. .T. H. J'erram ; South Auckland', R. Sinel: Wanganui. Palmerston North, Mr, I-', !•'. Laurenson; Marlborough, Mr. A. Burgess; Nelson, Mr. C. M. Hill; West Const, Mr. W.'W. Cook; Canterbury, Mr. P. T. Sandford; Otago, Mr, T. H. Sherwood; Southland, Mr. J. R. M'Clune.
