EPIDEMIC RELIEF

MATTER OP ADMINISTRATION. ' At the monthly meeting of the Wellington Hospital and Charitablo Aid Board vn Thursday ■ tlie finance and Property Committee recommended "That the Public Health department ad.vises that the Audit Department has .agreed to pass progressive payments up to 75 per cent, on account of the epidemic relief until certain requisitions aro complied with. It is recommended that the Department he advised -that this board is prepared to comply with all the conditions required of it in regard to payments made from October 1. but regrets 1 it cannot now comply with tho Department's requisitions prior to September ,10 last. Every opportunity will be granted the Departments concerned to examine all records and boohs at the board's offices, 8-10 Brandon Street, in connection with the epidemic relief; failing acceptance cf this, it is desired that tho board be relieved of the whole administration of this business at the end of; this month, and no further payments fjfi made."

' The chairman said the proposal made did not get over tho difficulty. When they first started the work it was the work of the Charitable Aid Committee, and they carried on until the Social Welfare Committee came into existence. If they acted aq .recommended, it would mean going back and making duplications of all the returns and documents in connection with the business, which they were mt prepared to do. Tho expenditure of the Charitable Aid Board wag made subject to the Audit Department's supervision, so why they were required to go back over all that work he did not know, and tho committee did not. think they should undertake it.

It was suggested by the Bev. H, van Sta'veren that'if they did not get satisfaction they should cease doing the work at til? end'of the, present month. - ,The chairman 6aid he thought they should hold their hand until tliev heard further from the Department. This was agreed to.
