THE SOUTHLAND SCHEME. By Telegraph—Pre3s Association. Invercargil', Octobex 24. A final conference of representatives of the local authorities of Southland with the Southland Electrification Committee was hold to-day. Resolutions were unanimously approved embodying necessary recommendations to the Governor-General regarding (a) area to bo constituted tho' Southland Electric Power District; (b) the area to be constituted the outer area of such district; (c) representation on the SoutMand Electric Power Board of each constituent district and combined district. The .chairman of the conference ivhb able to report most satisfactorily resultsfollowing the canvass for signatures to a petition to the Governor-General, and also for undertakings to consume power when it is available. The. petition is to go forward to Wellington within.the next ten days, and the &>ntthlnnd electrification scheme will bo launched under tho most favourable auspices.
