"THE MIKADO." Lovers of Gilbert and Sullivan and all thoso who enjoy a good comic opera will be pleased to learn that the Wellington Amateur Operatic. Society is to stage "Tim Mikado" at the tiraml Opera House on Saturday evening next. This brilliant and melodious opera has nut been seen in Wellington for some years, ami to the new generation its lovely music, witty dialogue, and quaint situations should come as a revelation. No one in Australia has a better knowledge of tho Gilbert and Sullivan repertoire than .Mr. Tom Pollard, whose services have again been secured to produce "The Mikado." Mr, Pollard specialises in fan-work in this opera, and the lovely and intricate movements and poses of principals and chorus wiil be one of tho features of tho opera. The cast of characters will includo Jliss Helen Gard'ner, of Duuediu, as Yuui Yum, Miss Jessie Newton as Katisha, Miss Anne Sullivan ns Petti Sing, Miss Daisy M'luernie as Peep 80, Mr. A. W. Newton as Koko, Mr. II ]?. Wood as Naliiki Poo, Mr. F. Twiss as Pooh Ba, Mr. Zante Wood as the Mikado, and Jfr. Charles Moore ns Pish Tush. Especially elaborate dress: ing has been designed and modelled by Mrs. .Tames Hannah, and a full operatic orchestra, under Mr. Bernard Page, will be employed. The box plan wiil be owned at tho Bristol warehouse on Wednesday next. SUNDAY CONCERT. Tho Professional Orchestra will give its last concert of the series to-morrow evening at His Majesty's Theatre. Mr. Tf. Moschini will conduct, with Mr. John Garrv as leader. Tho special attraction of the programme will be Wagner's triumphal and brilliant overture on tho song "Rule Britannia," in which the full strength of tho orchestra is used. Other items will be "Zampa" Overture, a fantasia oil "Paglincci" (Leoncavallo), tho weird "Dan.se Macabre" of SaintKaens.. and Blon's "Traumbild" for •strings. A silver coin collection will be taken up at the doors. KELBIJRN StOUTS. The Kelburn Scouts have put on some Rood entertainments, but on Saturday. November 1, at Concert Chamber, thev hope to beat their own record. ;Vs usual, the. programme is varied, and includes "I'oni, the Piper's Son," an extravaganza, with E. ljobinson as the piper, and P. Rovcirs in tho name part. With the exception of tho pig, specially imported from Oliariti, every performer is a member of the troop. The jaw, band is also a feature, and one or ...o interesting Scout items aro on the programme.
