ACCOMMODATION AT THE HOSPITAL. At the meeting of the Wellington. Hosj'ital and Charitable Aid UoaH on ThirsdAy luornintf the ehN'rman ot the Hospital Committee (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) made the following reference to the accommodation being provitled at the Hospital for venereal disease eases:— "Accommodation for 18 ewes of venereal disease has been provided in n separate block, which lias been renovated ior the purpose. The old ward is now disused. The patients in the new quarters are under treatment by tho doctor appointed by - the Public Health Department to deal ivith all such cases, both military and civil, and specially trained orderlies are in attendance at all hours. The main object in providing this new accommodation is to give the patients the.opportunity of obtaining treatment at the earliest 'possible • moment, because, «Jsr prompt measures some of these diseases can be prevented from developing or, if they do develop, the period of treatment. can be much diminished. Sometimes the delay of a. few hours results in a tedious illness, which might have been avoided by early treatment. It cannot be'too strongly urged upon those that acquire these complaints that they must seek medical advice at once and those that require hospital- treatment cm' be admitted at any time, tho special out-patient has been m operation for some weeks." . On the motion'of Mrs. Beck it was i decided that the Hospital Committee tnko into consideration the establishment of a free clinic for venereal disease. In moving in that direction, Mrs. Beck stated that in England free treatment was found to be the most effective treatment of this evil. Mrs. Snow asked if the Government offer to hear 75 per cent, of the cost of treating such eases lipid good. The chairman slated that it did. , n MI said that in consenuencp there might not. V any very great difficulty in waking the treatment, altogether free. Such treatment would, of course, be for both 66X00.
